Montessori School of Northampton Admissions Process

Admissions Policy:

All Children:
Prospective parents may make an appointment to visit the school and meet with the Head of School. Once an application has been received, an appointment will be scheduled for your child to visit a classroom and for you to meet again with the Head of School. The purpose of these meetings is to learn about our program, ensure your child's readiness by his/her starting date, and to answer any questions that you might have. The first priority in admissions is given to those who bring diversity to the school, siblings of enrolled students, new students with Montessori experience, and students who will be enrolled for at least a three-year cycle. Other priorities include maintaining an appropriate balance of age and gender and enrolling Children's House students who plan to remain at MSN for the Elementary Program. For those applying to the Elementary Program, following the parent's visit, receipt of the application and application fee, receipt of all previous school records (i.e. report cards, progress reports, work samples) is required. After the Head of School receives the school records, a child visit to the classroom may be arranged. Once total enrollment is reached, applications are placed in a waiting pool.

New Children's House students and parents may participate in a spring Stepping Stones class. A reception for new parents will be held in the fall. A visiting day for new children will be scheduled before the first day of school. A back-to-school night is scheduled in September to introduce new and returning parents to their children’s teachers and to (re)acquaint them with the program each year.

Admissions Process:
  • Schedule an appointment to tour the school, observe classrooms, and meet with the Head of School.
  • Submit an application and a nonrefundable fee. Upon receipt of your application and fee, we will open an admissions file for your child. If your child is currently attending school, we will also require a Release of Records form. This form gives the MSN Admissions Committee permission to obtain information from your child's current school.
  • If you are applying for financial aid, please call Kathy Murri, Business Manager, at 586-4538 extension 102. She will supply you with financial aid forms to be mailed to School and Student Services or refer you to a local Community Partnership Grant or voucher program as appropriate. The deadline for mailing financial aid forms to the School and Student Service (SSS) for financial aid is February 15. Requests for financial aid do not affect your child's candidacy for admissions to MSN. We will make every effort to inform families applying for financial aid of our decisions during the enrollment period.
  • We will schedule an appointment for your child to visit. Applicants for the Children's House will join other students for a 45-minute visit. Parents of applicants will stay in the classroom with their children, quietly observing from chairs. Applicants for Lower and Upper Elementary and their parents will meet with the Head of School and an Elementary teacher to talk about our program and the students' needs and interests.
  • Invitations to enroll are sent on March 1. The number of children accepted depends on the number of spaces available after re-enrollment of current children. Rolling admissions continue as space becomes available.
  • Families accepted into the school in March must secure enrollment for the fall by returning the enrollment contract with a nonrefundable deposit by the due date stated on the contract. Earlier notification is appreciated so that applicants in the waiting pool can be notified as soon as possible regarding their space availability.
  • Families accepted into the school after the initial enrollment period in March must secure enrollment for the fall by returning the enrollment contracts and nonrefundable deposit by the due date stated on the contract.

MSN encourages families of all races, creed, cultural heritage, political beliefs, marital status, sexual orientation, national/ethnic origins and disabilities to join us.
